چکیده

Though adjuvant radiotherapy has an established role in the treatment of carcinoma breast, there is concern regarding irradiation to heart and lung, more on left sided disease. Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) modulates intensity radiation beams with better accuracy, sparing surrounding normal organs. But it increases integral dose healthy tissues compared 3-Dimensional Conformal (3DCRT). So, our study was aimed at comparing dosimetry acute toxicity profile 3DCRT IMRT post-mastectomy patients. In arm patients received control 3DCRT, being 50 Gy 25 fractions for 5 weeks both arms. We dosimetric data Planning Target Volume (PTV) Organ At-risk (OAR) by techniques along profile. Dosimetric parameter PTV coverage V95 V107 were significantly than (p-value <0.0001). showed homogeneity index (0.14 vs 0.26 Gy) conformity also (0.94 0.74 Gy, p-value 0.0028). The mean value V25 disease lower (22.59 25.64, p 0.01). V20 ipsilateral lung numerically less though not significant (31.44 35.3). low volume IMRT, as seen higher V5 lung. To conclude, organs risk homogenous conformal plans 3DCRT. Keywords: radiotherapy; IMRT; 3DCRT; breast

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy achieves better local control compared to three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy for T4-stage nasopharyngeal carcinoma

PURPOSE To examine the survival outcomes and late toxicity profiles of three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT) vs. intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). METHODS Three hundred and seventy-four patients with newly diagnosed, non-metastatic, NPC who were curatively treated with 3DCRT between 2004 and 2006 and 481 patients tre...

Improved toxicity profile following high-dose postprostatectomy salvage radiation therapy with intensity-modulated radiation therapy.

BACKGROUND With salvage radiation therapy (SRT) in the postprostatectomy setting, the need to deliver sufficient radiation doses to achieve a high probability of tumor control is balanced with the risk of increased toxicity. Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) in the postprostatectomy salvage setting is gaining interest as a treatment strategy. OBJECTIVE Compare acute and late toxici...
